Harry Erben

1951


Harry Erben launches H. Erben Ltd and the company is registered on 25th of July. Our first office was a single room above Leonard Lyle’s gentlemen’s outfitters on the corner of Brompton Road & Beauchamp Place in Knightsbridge.

1953

Company doubles in size (2 rooms!) after the acquisition of the Seitz-Werke agency in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.

1955

Erben supplies pressing & bottling machinery to Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, who planted the first commercial vineyard in the UK for a hundred years.

1964

The company develops and patents the Gultig Cork Sterilisation process.

1968

The company leaves it’s premises on Brompton Road, and relocates to a modern warehouse facility in Hadleigh, Suffolk.

1969

Apollo 11 lands on the moon & Concorde, the world’s first supersonic airliner, makes its maiden flight.

1971

Decimalised currency replaces pounds, shillings and pence.

1980

Famous restaurateur, Robert Carrier, then owner of neighboring Hintlesham Hall, together with Gerald Milsom, the proprietor of Le Lalbooth restaurant and hotel, visits the Erben guest dining room.


1982


The company enters the Californian market and an agency was established with the prestigious Cal Glass Company of San Francisco.

1983

Robert Mondavi, California’s leading vineyard operator visits us.

1989

Tim Berners-Lee invents the World Wide Web.

1996

Harry's youngest son, Sasha, joins the company.

Sasha Erben takes over as Managing Director

2003

Erben introduces 30x60 screw caps to the portfolio, which are now a popular choice for wine makers around the world.

2001


Erben launches its first website.

2005


Erben Packaging South Africa Ltd launches.

2013


Erben supplies a capsule for Chopin Vodka’s celebratory 200 litre bottle of vodka.

Erben redevelops an existing building into the new HQ in Hadleigh, Suffolk.

introduction of the 5-litre mini keg & Laffort oenological products and the Erben laboratory in the Hadleigh HQ is completed

2016

A new, refreshed Erben website launches and Harry Erben celebrates his 90th birthday.
